Mount Rushmore has a tremendous granite sculpture of depicting the presidents faces. The Sculptor's Studio was built under the supervision of Sculptor Gutzon Borglum in 1939. Plaster models and tools used to sculpt are on display for tourist's to view.
The beautiful Black Hills environment and the unique geological formation of the Mount Rushmore mountain are also worth learning more about. The beautiful plant life and natural structures of Mount Rushmore are not to be missed.
Climbing Mount Rushmore - (Not Allowed)
There is no allowable Climbing of Mount Rushmore. Mount Rushmore is not a typical mountain. It is also a sculpture. It would be a problem if people were to get injured on the President's nose.. etc. It would also make bad press. Mountain climbing is best done at none sculpted mountains. To visit other mountains where climbing is allowed, please call to book a hotel room and travel places such as Mount Rainier. Park Police will be notified if anyone attempts to climb the Mount Rushmore Presidential Sculptures.

MOUNT RUSHMORE HOURS, and SEASONS:
Open Daily, summer: 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; daily, winter: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; closed December 25.
Mount Rushmore Weather and RECOMMENDED CLOTHING:
Very Warm days and very cool nights are not uncommon in the summer. July and August are typically hot. Moderate temperatures can be expected in the winter months of December, January, February and even in March. Temperatures can easily go below zero so bring appropriate clothing. Warm summer days bring thunder storms frequently and may bring large hail. Foggy days may block the view of the Mount Rushmore Presidential Sculptures. September and May have been hit with snow. Bring appropriate jackets and layers of clothing in case it is either cold or warm.
MOUNT RUSHMORE DIRECTIONS & Mount Rushmore MAP
From I-90 - exit at Rapid City along Highway 16 southwest to Keystone. Then take Highway 244 to Mount Rushmore. From the south - follow Highway 385 north to Highway 244. Highway 244 goes to the Mount Rushmore memorial.
Mount Rushmore Transportation:
Rapid City, SD, located 24 miles from the memorial has an airport and bus service. Rental cars or private tour bus companies can bring visitors to the memorial from Rapid City. Personal vehicles are most commonly used to come to the memorial. Call the Sturgis Bus Co. and view the Google Map of Mount Rushmore, for schedules of Bus Rides in and around Mount Rushmore.

Mount Rushmore Trams and Mountain Views
Tour the mountain with an airtram if you do not fear heights or have very young children. Visit the Mount Rushmore tram link., and see maps or Mount Rushmore which are printable, and can be useful in obtaining directions to Mount Rushmore.
A half mile hike is available past the Mount Rushmore Memorial. It is the Presidential Trail of Mount Rushmore.. There are many hiking trails and biking trails outside of the memorial. Programs/Activities:
Regularly scheduled guided walks and ranger programs during the summer months. School programs by appointment.

There are no camping facilities at Mount Rushmore for fear people would stay there indefinately.

A bookstore operated by the Mount Rushmore History Association is located in the Orientation Center. Mount Rushmore has many fine places to enjoy while visiting Mount Rushmore's Presidential Trail and The Beautiful Mountain Sculptures.
Mount Rushmore, SD Handicapped Parking and Wheelchair Accessibility:
Mount Rushmore is wheelchair accessible at the bookstore and giftshop as are many ogther tourist sites. Handicapped Parking is availble. Please do not use the handicapped parking without a valid handicapped permit or other special access permit at Mount Rushmore. Mount Rushmore is a wonderful place to visit and must remain wheelchair accessable and convenient for the handicapped or special needs traveler.
RECOMMENDED ACTIVITIES/PARK USE:
Viewing the Memorial from the viewing terrace; hiking the Presidential Trail, visiting the Sculptor's Studio during the summer months; and viewing the natural beauty in the area.

Mount Rushmore Park Regulations:
Pets may be walked in parking area but not permitted on the trails due to potential biting of tourists or creating dog do on the trail for others. Please do not walk pets on the Presidential Trail as a courtesy to other hikers on the Mount Rushmore hiking trail. Keeping the trail clean will keep the trip pleasant for all visitors at Mount Rushmore.
BASIC MOUNT RUSHMORE VISIT RECOMMENDATIONS:
It would take five days to see all the sites. Two hours will suffice for a simple tour.
SPECIAL MOUNT RUSHMORE EVENTS, PROGRAMS:
Music and variety shows are ongoing at Mount Rushmore! A Sculpture lighting ceremony is held each evening from Memorial Day through Labor Day in the amphitheater. See the Orientation Center for all Events

Major construction going on at Mount Rushmore, and will probably be continued for many years.
Do not walk under or near construction projects & observe safety precautions where applicable at Mount Rushmore.
